Kevin Russ

Kevin Russ is a American photogrpahy who focuses on following people who seem to be on a journey. Some of these journeys go into the woods and these are the photos which I am planning on focusing on. I really like these photos because they look very professional even though they are just in a forest. I like the natural lighting he uses in his image and I would like to recreate some of his images but in my own personal style. I like Kevin Russ' style because he captures images and does very little editing if at all. I would edit my photos if I was experimenting but I would like to keep my images as natural as possible.

I would really like to create an image similar to this because its just like some of the images from my second shoot but on a larger scale. After reserching this artist I would like to try and create an image like this but in a woodland environment. I will have to be really careful and safe when doing it thought because the fire can get out of hand really quickly and could cause some damage to either me or the environment. To create an image like this I will have to find a big branch with lots of twigs coming off and then attach lots of book pages to the twigs so that only the pages burn and not the stick meaning it will be a lot easier to put the fire out if it gets out of control. When I take this photo I will be using my model which I have used in my other photos because he fits well in the environment. I will most likely be using the woods I did in my second shoot because theyre close to my house and I can quickly go back and forth if I forget something however I may try a different environment to create some differance between shoots. Also while taking these photo I would like to try and capture these photos using a film camera, I could also try and experimenting with printing some of the photos out and burining near the fire as if the fire in the photo has burnt the actual image.

Kevin Russ is one of the most adventurous photographers I've studies, he goes all over the world taking photographs in woods and other environments. One inspiration I take from him is the framing of his images, on large scale images he has his models out of the way of the image so you can see both the models and all of the great landscape in one image. I plan to take inspiration from this by framing my photos similarly so I can still work with woodland and portraits.

One this I also admire about the work of Kevin Russ is his adventerous nature. Due to me only being a student I cannot travel to all of the same countries that Russ does, therefore I plan to go to places that most other students dont. This includes different forests and patches of flowers in forests.
