Kyle Thompson

Kyle Thompson is an American surreal photographer. I really like these photos because of the creative use of fire which I will use to combine Flicker and Woodland for my exam. I particularly like the ones set in the woods as they will link better and will be the easier to do rather than setting things on fire in public view. I know in doing this project I will have to be very safe and a lot of things can go seriously wrong so I will have to be mature and safe about what Im doing.

This image combines my two projects of Flicker and Woodland into one. To create this image I would get a large stick or rusted rod (So it looks like a stick from a distance), tie a cloth over it and proceed to combine that cloth with a controlled fire so that now one will get hurt in the making. I will have to try and be quick about getting these photos with my models so reduce any risks that could happen. While doing this I will have adults on stand by with some water incase anything does go wrong but that is unlikely. I really like the fog in the background of the image because I believe it adds to the mystery and adventurous element of the photo.  When I take inspiration from this I will ask my model to wear something similar or some autumn like clothing. This would include checkered shirts and dark clothing.

I like how all photos by Kyle Thompson have a very warm feel even if he is in a cold looking forest or even if we see it is snowing in the background of some of his images. This feeling of warmth is what I could like to try and achive in my images by manipulating them in photoshop. One way I could do this is to put an orage or red warmth filer over the images. Or I could ask my models to wear Autumn colours like browns and oranges so I can make those colours stand out more making the image seem warmer.

The in corperation of fire in these images works really well with the woodland theme especailly the burning of the dolls houses because its as if hes burning away his childhood to stay warm in the woods. I also really appreciate the surreal fire on the arms of the model because I know how hard this can be to try and acomplish especially in Photoshop because its hard to make the image look realistic. However in Kyle Thompsons photos I think the fire on the arms works really well and doesn't look unrealistic or fake. I plan to try and do something like this in some of my later images however for now I plan to try and over lay fire that purposely looks unrealistic.

I really like the lighting in these images because you can always been everything so clearly and these never seems to be any light effecting the camera. One issue that I might face when trying to re create images like Kyles is that we're doing this project in the summer so I will not be able to take any photos when it is snowing. Antoher issue is that it is a lot harder to lighting fighers in Hartlepool because it isnt as warm as America and it rains a lot so all of the floor is damp
